Peter Nicol MBE born 5 April is a former professional squash player from Scotland , who represented first Scotland and then England in international squash. In , while still competing for Scotland, he became the first player from the UK to hold the World No. He is widely considered to be one of the most outstanding international squash players of his time. During his career, Nicol was well known for his excellent retrieving game, as well as being an extremely tough competitor to break down. His rivalry with the Canadian player Jonathon Power was amongst the most famous and extended in the history of squash.

A veteran squash coach and his world champion son are selling their north-east training centre after 20 years of inspiring youngsters to pick up a racket. Pat and Peter Nicol established the training centre in Westhill two decades ago while the latter was setting the squash world alight. However now Mr Nicol sen, 78, has decided to hang up his racket out to spend more time with his family, and also to visit Manhattan, New York, where his son is establishing the first-ever community squash centre. And he will also be closely watching the next generation of sporting stars in the family, his grandsons Ethan and Sebastian Ross, both Aberdeen FC players.
