Home News Article. A Pinchbeck man who attempted to engage in sexual conversations with three people he thought were under-age girls was today jailed for 16 months. Jason Hildred 48 of Walpole Close in Pinchbeck, was also ordered to register as a sex offender for ten years and made the subject of a sexual harm prevention order. Lincoln Crown Court heard Hildred began swapping messages with someone he believed was a year-old girl called Dani on the Chat Avenue site in November Noel Philo, prosecuting, said Dani was in reality a member of an organisation which seeks to protect children. During the social media messages, which also occurred on WhatsApp, Hildred tried to instigate sexual conversations, Mr Philo told the court.

In possibly the first such case involving an Indian in the US, police in Pennsylvania have arrested an Indian engineer on charges of using Internet for soliciting young girls for sex. In a statement, the Pennsylvania Attorney-General Tom Corbett said Nityanand Gopalika, 30, here on a work visa, allegedly used an Internet chatroom to approach what he believed was a year-old girl from Pittsburgh. According to the criminal complaint filed by the Attorney-General's Child Predator Unit, Gopalika engaged in a series of chats over several days questioning the girl about her sexual experience and describing the sex acts he wished to engage in. Gopalika is also accused of sending the girl two webcam videos that showed him nude or masturbating in front of his computer. Gopalika was arrested on July 1 when he arrived at a predetermined meeting location.

Wickr Me, an encrypted messaging app owned by Amazon Web Services, has become a go-to destination for people to exchange images of child sexual abuse, according to court documents, online communities, law enforcement and anti-exploitation activists. But Amazon is doing comparatively little to proactively address the problem, experts and law enforcement officials say, attracting people who want to trade such material because there is less risk of detection than in the brighter corners of the internet. Nearly every prosecution reviewed has resulted in a conviction aside from those still being adjudicated. Almost none of the criminal complaints reviewed note cooperation from Wickr itself at the time of filing, aside from limited instances where Wickr was legally compelled to provide information via a search warrant.

Grooming can happen in online spaces as well as in person, by a stranger or someone known. It involves the offender building a relationship with a child, and sometimes with their wider family, gaining their trust and a position of power over the child, in preparation for abuse. The process of grooming can take place in a matter of minutes, over one conversation, or over long periods of time, in some cases, years.
