It feels like a different universe. In fact it was the summer of Bill Clinton was testifying in front of a grand jury about an affair with a White House intern , "The Boy Is Mine" by Brandy and Monica was the biggest song in the country and Armageddon was earning millions at the box office. Up north, a bunch of quirky Canadians who called themselves Barenaked Ladies were plotting their world takeover. Then 's Stunt dialed up the hooks and condensed the group's spirited, humor-heavy live shows into 50 minutes of not- too -jokey pop.

Barenaked Ladies with Shad, U. Barenaked Ladies with KT Tunstall. Barenaked Ladies Tortuga Music Festival Coming from humble beginnings in Ontario, Canada, the pairing of Ed Robertson and Steven Page came together in a chance meeting after a Peter Gabriel concert. After constantly missing practices to begin with, the pair learnt to improvise their sets as they went along, a unique live touch that has remained a staple throughout their career. They began to put together home recordings including their first album, Buck Naked which was put together on a 4 track recorder.
The band quickly developed a cult following in Canada, with their self-titled cassette becoming the first independent release ever to be certified gold in Canada. Jim's brother Andy was a member between and Page left in , reducing the group to a quartet. The band's style has evolved greatly throughout their career, and their music which began as exclusively acoustic quickly grew to encompass a mixture of a wide array of styles including pop, rock, hip hop, rap, etc. The band's cult following translated into immediate success with Gordon in Canada, but it was not until the band's live album Rock Spectacle and their fourth studio album Stunt , that they achieved major success in the United States and United Kingdom.
Rock Spectacle is the first live album by Barenaked Ladies. It was the first major success for the band in the United States, selling over one million copies and producing a hit single in its version of " Brian Wilson. A live version of " Shoe Box " was on promotional and advance copies of this record, but was ultimately deleted. The recording would eventually be released on the " One Week " CD single. The album contains two bonus tracks.
