Hustlers , Lorene Scafaria's tale inspired by a New York Magazine article about the real-life New York City strippers who made stacks of cash by drugging clients and charging their credit cards thousands of dollars, has received mostly rave reviews from critics as well as the internet at large. She is now threatening to sue. VICE also reported on complaints made by the strippers at Show Palace, where the film was shot, who allege that they lost thousands in earnings when the club was shut down for a week of filming. These issues have been on the mind of Jacqueline Frances, who goes by Jacq the Stripper.

In 'Hustlers,' Jennifer Lopez stars as a stripper who teams up with her fellow workers to survive the Great Recession. She befriends single mother Ramona Jennifer Lopez , a much more established dancer who takes her under her wing. When the recession hits, the two team up to scam their Wall Street banker patrons, enlisting the help of other club employees in the process. But perhaps the most noteworthy aspect of the film is that it focuses on a community that is rarely, if ever, deemed worthy of the big-budget studio treatment: Women who do sex work. Jacqueline Frances, a longtime stripper and comedian who built a following on Instagram as Jacq the Stripper, was also hired to serve as a consultant on the film. Yet many real-life sex workers have sharply criticized Hustlers — and not just for its depiction of the industry, which many say perpetuates harmful tropes. But many of the allegations have centered around the employees at Show Palace, the club where much of the film was shot.

Chief among the knowledge she shared was that stripping is a highly social transaction, especially in one-on-one dances or private room shows in clubs across the country. Lopez asked Frances what, if anything, she was supposed to say during a dance. They want it to be good, because a lot of the movies about strippers have been really problematic and made things worse. A lot of the narratives are really sad or pathetic, they pathologize what brought them to do this. But it always comes back to the hustle.

It tells the story of small-time pool hustler "Fast Eddie" Felson and his desire to break into the "major league" of professional hustling and high-stakes wagering by high-rollers that follows it. He throws his raw talent and ambition up against the best player in the country, seeking to best the legendary pool player " Minnesota Fats ". After initially losing to Fats and getting involved with unscrupulous manager Bert Gordon, Eddie returns to try again, but only after paying a terrible personal price.
